A Short Story

Tales from the kitchen

The word ‘Yoons’ is a phonetical adaptation of owner Unice-Ann’s name shortened to Une’s, which is her nickname.

Unice-Ann Badenhorst qualified at TUT in Food Service Management, then travelled to the UK where she worked with John Tarode at The Blue Bird Restaurant in Chelsea, London, amongst others.  After returning to South Africa she joined the family business at Millys (named after her mother) and helped in conceptualising, developing and marketing the brand.  It is also during this period that she gained extensive knowledge and experience in wedding catering and flower art.

After 22 years Unice-Ann and her family relocated to White River where her two boys go to school.  An opportunity presented itself to open her own restaurant in White River Crossing as her next career step.

Yoons Eatery is a dream come true.  It has been a lifelong aspiration for Unice-Ann to present her creativity, her flair and personal style, using her own brand.  Her love for flowers, gathering friends, family and food lovers is all coming together in this beautiful space created for love and laughter, while giving back to the community.
